Digital Video Editing Course Testimonials

What people in the sports world are saying about SMWW's Digital Video Editing Course!

  • Sports Management Worldwide really opened the door into the sporting world for me. Taking the digital video editing class really gave me an introduction into what video editing in sports was. Only several weeks into the course I was able to get a job with the University of Oklahoma Sooners basketball team assisting as a video editor for the team. Being only a freshman in college it really has opened the doors for me and started on my journey of one day becoming a general manger in the NBA. Thanks,

learn, make contacts in the industry, and receive the necessary encouragement and
motivation to pursue my dream. I am now working for the Portland Trail Blazers!!!!

  • I just completed my first season as the Video Coordinator of the Los Angeles Kings. It was after my first season in the internship in Columbus Blue Jackets that I took your course. I feel like I gained knowledge about the scouting and management side of the sport that I would otherwise not have known had I simply just gone through the Video Analysis side.

  • Digital Video Editing course is an excellent way to get your foot in the door as a video coordinator. If you look at most NBA teams basketball operations staff, At least 4 staff employees started off as video coordinators on every team. Now there scouts, director of player personnel, and GM's. For me personally, I got a job with Synergy Sports Technology as a Phase 2 logger. I break down College and NBA clips and log them in to there program. Overall this class was an excellent way to learn Digital Video Editing and to find a job in what I love to do. I would reccommend this to anybody that's interested in being a video coordinator for a college or pro team.

  • I started the class in the spring and learned a lot about how professional sports teams use Synergy's software for their success as a franchise. As part of the course, I was able to meet with the Asst Video Coordinator for the Memphis Grizzlies.

To make a long story short, I am now a Memphis Grizzlies Team Attendant and I believe that if it wasn't for SMWW, I wouldn't have had this opportunity to even have my resume looked at. My connection with SMWW made it possible for me to get my foot in the door of a professional organization and grow from there. I'm still not through as I will continue my education with SMWW and attempt to do bigger and better things.

SMWW Sports Broadcasting Grad, Don Oyao, had the summer of a lifetime reporting for KCXL Integrity Sports at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Through his affiliation with Seychelles National Olympics, Oyao was able to travel the world consulting as a sports doctor and in his spare time, reporting on the games he attended.

For three months leading up to the Summer Olympics, Oyao covered events in St. Petersburg, Russia, Bologna, Italy, Cairo, Egypt, Paris, France and then finally the Olympics in Bejing. Every Wednesday, Listeners in Kansas City, MO heard Oyao's take on international competition and the events of the Olympic Games.

  • SMWW is a unique educational system. In this time of economic chaos, students want to secure an education that will give them a return on their investment. Having been a former professor, I have designed a few certificates to try and enforce courses targeted at helping the student achieve success in the "real world". I have many times been let down because of feeling like a little ship on a big ocean. Coaching basketball for six years was the only time I felt any success so I have returned to my passion with an institution that cares about it's students success.

I truly believe The Scouting Network is in a very good position to become the standard for scouting for professional soccer and even more so in the US and Major League Soccer. Good scouting is the foundation for any pro sports team wanting to build itself into a winning organization.

  • This course was Excellent! I very much enjoyed the chats and assignments. My favorite part was learning to evaluate certain players abilities and knowlege about the "ins and outs" of soccer teams. Being able to chat to a pro every week was the highlight! Very interesting and enjoyable course.

  • I'm very happy with the soccer management and scouting course. It gives you helpful advise and a good insight to professional football. It teaches you how to be a well organised scout and key points to look out for. The chats were very interesting because we got to hear Derek's views and inside training on many subjects.

  • I enrolled for the Soccer management and scouting course with no classroom or formal training in soccer. My soccer experience was from the streets and stadiums of West Africa and the little I gained when I was part-timing as a sports journalist. Though I have a very demanding work schedule (I work twelve hours a day) I decided to go for the soccer management and scouting course so I can help the young folks in my country develop their soccer talents. Since day one when I started the course there was no turning back! I have not only learned a lot about tactics, discipline and scouting but also the management aspect of the game. Derek was very helpful and always at hand to answer our questions. After graduating from this course I would definitely recommend it to all of my friends.

  • The Soccer Management and Scouting course was a key for me to get into the business side of soccer. A lot of teams look at the course as a plus when you trying to get a job. In addition to scouting Florida for The Scouting Network, I'm about to get a job as a soccer reporter in South Florida for a news website. Graduating from the Soccer Scouting and Management course was a big factor. It's a key you can use to get into the soccer industry. I learned great deal from the materials I received and from Derek who is a very experienced about the game of soccer. His experience is hard to find in a country like the U.S. where we have to search hard to find educated soccer people. Derek was very passionate about teaching us and talking to us about so many different topics that opened up my eyes a lot about the game of soccer, especially in England. If you want to learn more about the game of soccer and how to manage and scout players, then you definitely need to enroll in this course. The material you learn about soccer in this course you won't find in any sports management school in the entire country because sports management degrees in the U.S. are developed without soccer being in mind. You definitely need this course if you are serious about soccer.

  • I enrolled on the SMWW Soccer Management & Scouting Course as I wanted an insider's perspective on the world of soccer. The course was very comprehensive, with weekly assignments covering key topics like the ethos & philosophy of a soccer club, different playing styles from around the globe, my own dream team, transfers, and the sport's relationship with the media. However, the main focus was on analysing a player from a set match, a team and a goalie in order to write a scouting report. This took up three weeks. The assignments were no push-over and I had to do a weekly study plan so as to submit them on time. Course resources were well written in clear & plain English, supported by diagrams.A DVD was also supplied for the scouting simulations. In addition there was a weekly chat session with a senior professional scout, Derek Bragg. Derek was able to answer any queries as well as give general support. He also kept us all on our toes with his questions! Despite the course expectations, I found following the course fun. In our interactive classroom there were students from America,Africa, Mainland Europe & the UK and it was interesting reading their postings and finding out about Football from different cultures. My footballing poems went down a treat, too! Now the exams are done & the course is over, its time to go out into the field and scout for real. Derek has offered follow-up support with this, & I now feel I have a good foundation, as well as having an insiders perspective on the world of soccer.

  • This was not the first time attending an on-line course with regards to sport industry. I dare to say though, that SMWW provided an opportunity that I haven't experienced before; interactive chats with my fellow students and expert teachers. This unique experience not only made me think even more positively about the on-line education, but also it gave me the chance to exchange views with people from all continents who share the same passion: soccer. The course was very well organised, addressing specific issues from the soccer industry as a whole. Various concerns or inquiries about the course have been easily and quickly resolved not only with the collaboration of tutors, but also with the very helpful "behind the scenes" SMWW staff. Although my passion is football/soccer, having completed the Soccer Management & Scouting I would not hesitate to enroll myself to another course as well, since the quality of SMWW' courses can ensure a career in the sport industry in general. SMWW= Value for money.

  • The Soccer Management & Scouting Course was more like I was receiving on the job training. I will recommend anyone serious about getting into soccer management to enroll for this course. My soccer management consulting company and academy will greatly benefit from what Derek Bragg and fellow students shared with me during the course. • At first I was hesitating on taking online courses. I am young and had never experienced online courses. SMWW called and totally encouraged me. I did not get to attend much of the Sunday online classes with the teachers and all the other students because of the time difference. But all the chats where available in the website for the students that couldn't make it in the Sunday chat. The information that I gathered from the books, the website ,outline from the teachers, and answers to the questions from other students enhanced my knowledge . In addition, the research I had to make for some of the questions helped me understand where to get information, and how it works. Most importantly, this course lets you know how to evaluate a player, a team, and gives an idea of how to outline your report which I found very interesting even though it wasn't the easiest part for me. In short, at first I was hesitating, but after two weeks I was loving it all the way from the books to reading other students posts.

  • With the experience and advice of Derek Bragg you can learn a lot about how the business side of soccer works from an insider's perspective. Plus you get a weekly network of individuals from around the world to learn from and share experiences with. I would recommend this class to anyone who is currently in the soccer industry, is interested in getting involved in the soccer industry, or anyone that just loves the game and wants to learn more.

What people in Racing are saying about SMWW's Motorsports Management Course!

  • It was a great learning experience. I wish all local racers would take classes like this. It could really help them out when they are approaching sponsors and looking for ways to be a part of the community outside of racing.

I want to say thank you for all that you have done for me. I really learned a lot during the class. There were so many different aspects of the racing industry that I hadn't been exposed to being a crew member, that I learned about during the class.

  • I wouldn't be where I am without my time with SMWW. Tom Blattler is one of the biggest reasons for my success in motorsports. Tom does PR for Acura Motorsports so he's a giant in the industry. At the end of the course, I found an opportunity with the Penske Racing organization who also owned a subsidiary, the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. I interviewed with a man who knows Tom very well, so that connection paid dividends right away. I was named Communications Associate at the Detroit Grand Prix.

Things were going very well until the economy crash which Michigan had been feeling long before the rest of the country. The race was canceled and I looked to Tom for guidance. After once again sitting in on several of the weekly chats and getting some advice, I found an opening at the Homestead Miami Speedway and landed the job.
I love my job and Tom has been with me every step of the way and I cannot thank him or the SMWW enough.

  • I decided to pursue my passion by taking the SMWW Motorsports class. The course has taught me a lot and above all introduced me to a unknown part of the sport I've followed for so long, and the thanks to that goes to Motorsports facilitator Tom Blattler. With his mentoring I was able to infiltrate many parts of motorsports I never was able to be a part of before.

I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to meet and introduce myself to such an inspiring and knowledgeable individual such as Tom. As busy as he is with the happenings at Indy Series and the ALMS, he has taken the time to invite and provide me with credentials to experience on a first hand basis the operations that take place at a race weekend. Along with this chance Tom provided me with the opportunity to expose myself to the shakers and movers of the sport, which in return hopefully will deliver an opportunity to join the industry.

The Indy 500 is amongst the biggest events in the world of motorsports, and how beautiful is that one of your students had the chance to watch the race from the pit lane amongst the biggest stars in the world. That happened to me on Memorial Day weekend, and it is all owed to this course and Tom.

It was a privilege to join both Tom Blattler and Jim Utter for the motorsports class audio chats every week from my computer.
I wanted to say thank you for creating this opportunity. I believe I made a great investment in joining your educational institution and I'll be looking forward for the opportunities that SMWW will provide in my future objectives.

I also work with visiting clubs as well, as I have worked with pretty much 2/3rds of the NHL teams doing stats. This will be my 3rd season doing this job. I just completed my first season as the Video Coordinator of the Los Angeles

  • After completing the SMWW Hockey GM and Scouting Course, I attended a sports career fair. There, I met the Human Resources Coordinator for the Tampa Bay Lightning. We discussed the changes that the team had undergone during the off-season, and she mentioned that new General Manager Brian Lawton had hired two Hockey Operations interns upon his arrival. I immediately began discussing the training I'd received from SMWW and my strong interest in entering into Hockey Operations.

I sent a copy of my final course paper to Tampa. Within a few days, the Hockey Operations Coordinator contacted me and learned about my background, including the scouting techniques and Collective Bargaining Agreement analysis that comprises the GM and Scouting Course. He was impressed, and I began a half-season internship in January 2009. Completing projects to assist the team in future preparations, as well as observing the GM, Assistant GM, and Hockey Staff every day, allowed me to gain phenomenal insight into the day-to-day operations of an NHL Front Office. I even got to assist the major decision-makers during the days leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline!

  • In my eight weeks of taking the management and player scouting course it helped me to take what I knew from playing the game of hockey my whole life, and applying the skills I learned throughout the course and putting them into a package to help me enhance my trade into the scouting world of hockey. I like from week one how we started on the history of hockey and how the times have changed on to week eight where we able to apply what we learned right into the offices of pro-hockey teams. • The Hockey General Manager course gave me the opportunity to learn and explore the fundamentals of Pro-Hockey. Now, when I watch an NHL game I refer to as "a front stage," because we admire those who have the ability to fill arenas. • In the Hockey General Manager and Scouting Course, I was able to learn the ins and outs of scouting for talent. Just being able to talk to Mike Oke and Dino Caputo really expanded my knowledge of the game of hockey from the business perspective. At the completion of this course, I feel confident and I know that I really could get a job in a hockey organization be it, volunteering, media relations or some other department. If you work hard enough and put your heart and soul into the course, great things will happen down the road.

  • I would recommend this course to anyone with a passion for hockey and would like to find a way to get "in the game". Whether it be the course material, the discussion boards, the weekly chats or the training on the rinknet software, there's something that everybody can get out of this course. My favorite part overall and what really made a difference for me, was being able to ask intellegent questions based on what we were learning, and getting real world answers from those in the game during the weekly chats. This gave the course that extra oomph that made you feel that you got real value for your money.

Your eyes will be opened to happenings that went on in the Original Six Era that will shock you. The scouting part of the course is very in-depth and you will learn exactly how the ISS scouts/recruits players. Overall this course was saturated with information and a joy to attend. • I was a Pro Goalie for 21 years and had to retire suddenly due to an injury, without any direction concerning my future career. I was immediately impressed with the SMWW concept and felt that enrolling in their educational programs could be greatly beneficial to my professional future off the ice. SMWW online education is the way of the future bringing the sports world together. SMWW chats provide an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas and relating of experience, and networking with people from all over the globe. I have just completed the Agent Management Course and will stay with SMWW as an Agent Advisor. I have also enrolled in the Hockey General Manger Course and am looking forward to the guidance of SMWW and EJ Hradek. I wish I had come across SMWW 10 years ago. Dr. Lashbrook is a great mentor with impressive knowledge and leadership.

  • The Hockey Scouting and General Management course provided me with a strong foundation towards a career in the professional hockey business. In addition to working with the ISS and the accompanying RINKnet scouting software, I am now able to build a strong network with both current and future hockey professionals. Moreover, success with SMWW greatly improved the appeal of my resume and aided in 'getting my foot in the door' with a professional hockey organization.

  • Thanks to SMWW I have recently been named the scout for two provinces for a Jr. "A" Hockey Club!!!
This course has helped me to broaden my horizons in a sport that I am so passionate about. Following the last two weeks of the course, I was promoted from a territory scout to the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island scout, thereby taking on the added challenge of scouting in two separate provinces for a Junior "A" Hockey team. I owe many thanks to SMWW.

  • I really had fun throughout the course. I feel that I gained some very valuable experience using the Rink Net software. Also, thanks to this course having the students approach somebody in a management position with a hockey team, I worked as a volunteer for the Ajax Attack OHA Jr. A hockey Team. I found this to be of great experience and will be sitting down with the team GM soon to discuss further opportunities with the team. Without this course I would not have had this opportunity.

  • For someone who has limited involvement in the business of hockey, yet has a passion for it, this course is a great first step. I was fortunate enough to speak with a member of both the Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Flames organization and the input they were able to give me on what the business involves at the NHL level and junior level gave me a better outlook on the game of hockey. In regards to the Rinknet software, this provide me with a great tool in being able to determine the strengths and flaws of players in a very organized manner.

  • This course has been both awakening and an inspiration for me. Since I am a European, I never knew the way they played this game overseas. I really was amazed at the amount of information about hockey that I hadn't known about. This course was one of my best experiences so far in the hockey world. I hope I can continue my journey after completing this course. This course introduced me to some new things and helped me to put the puzzle together, so to speak, on a number of issues. I gained a different outlook on the game and learned to train my eye much sharper than I ever did before. The weekly chats were invaluable. The Rink Net program was also enlightening. I was not aware there was a program that enabled you to follow every single player in the league. For the last eight weeks, I felt like a sponge who was soaking up every bit of information I could.

  • I have had a busy and successful career in music for most of my adult life but I was always a huge hockey fan and began educating myself on the nuances of the game long before I knew I was doing it. When I stumbled across SMWW something clicked and I saw an opportunity to channel my passion for and knowledge of the game into a possible career. The SMWW course was amazing; I learned so much about the history of the game and about the events in hockey history which served to shape and define the landscape of the modern game and the labor issues which have confronted it recently. The weekly chats were also great and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with my fellow students and firing questions at the scouts who moderated the sessions. Their insights were invaluable in helping me to decide that I could be a successful scout. The SMWW course gave me the confidence to pursue a career in hockey and now I am the California/Western U.S. Regional Scout for the Kootenay Ice Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League.

The course does a tremendous job of allowing its students to get that "foot in the door" and connect with those of great influence in hockey. • SMWW helped me get a job with the Florida Marlins and then with the Miami Heat after I took the Sports Business Management Course. Then I took the Football GM and Scouting and I now have had my reports published on the Miami Herald website. I attended the SMWW Sports Career Conference where I personally spoke with Arizona Cardinals GM Rod Graves. He was aware I was a SMWW grad and he gave me his personal email! I would recommend SMWW to anyone trying to get into sports.

  • I took the course last summer to further gain knowledge of NFL scouting and the techniques and nuances used in everyday scouting.

I was lucky enough to learn and work under Marc Trestman and Russ Lande who both taught a ride array of scouting techniques that I still use today. They both had different viewpoints on positions and the way they should be played, so there differences taught me how to make my own judgments.

Since the course I have worked for a variety of NFL draft companies as a scout and writer. NFLSMACKDOWN.com, NFLDRAFTSCOUT.com, SCOUT.com, TFYDRAFT.com, FOOTBALLOUTSIDERS.com and have had my work published for each site. I have also made several radio appearances as well.

  • In my professional opinion, my interaction and experience with Dr. Lashbrook, as well as any and all associates with SMWW has been nothing but outstanding to say the least. These folks are not good at what they do in the education and advancement of students gaining necessary knowledge in order to pursue a dream career in a sports environment, but in my opinion are excellent. They are very down-to-earth and are willing to share their personal experiences without an ego to go along with the respective answers. I wish that I had developed a professional relationship with my new mentors at SMWW years ago.

I needed more knowledge and football experience and learn some of the things a football organization goes through.I am currently talking to the Arizona Cardinals about maybe doing an internship for camp and maybe something with media relations during the season. I gained alot of good insight into the art of scouting, insight that helped me advance in my profession. Particularly what measurables were most important in scouting a player at each position. I also became familiar with language and acronyms used in scouting athletes. Currently I am coaching LB's at Western Washington University. • I took the Football GM and Scouting course because I've always loved the game. During my college years, I never even gave it a thought on majoring in something sports-related which probably was my down fall. Instead, I majored in psychology. I heard about SMWW on ESPN one Saturday night a little over three months ago. After I heard Mel Kiper, Jr. advestising SMWW, I knew it was my ticket to the game as Dr. Lashbrook always says. I know now in my life I absolutely want to have a career in sports, and my sports is football. My life is football. I have learned more than I ever thought I would. I now know what to look for in technical aspects of a player's ability for scouting reports. All the ins and outs of what makes a football team really good or really bad. What goes on in the front office of an NFL team. There's still so much to learn.

The audio chats and books you read give you first hand insight into the game itself.

Basketball GM Course FAQ

  • The Basketball GM and Scouting course was a huge help in me getting started at the Boston Celtics. I had several interviews, and in each case, after my resume was reviewed I was asked to discuss my training through the Basketball GM & Scouting Course. I believe the Celtics knew I was serious when they saw I had taken this course on my own, outside of my regular college courses. The course showed me ways to view the game from different levels beyond a fan's perspective. Each week during the chats, I spoke with influential members of the basketball world, and these conversations taught me how to handle myself in an NBA environment. One thing about my job is that I do a little of everything. The team's basketball analyst was happy that I would be coming in with prior knowledge of using statistics in a sports environment.

  • The SMMW Basketball GM and Scouting course enabled me to learn more about the business of basketball such as salary cap and statistical information that a General Manager would need to know to run and organization. Thank you SMMW!

  • Basketball GM Scouting provided the foundation of skills and knowledge you will need to work in the front office. The material (scouting techniques, synergy, NBA salary cap review and interaction with expert professionals) was in depth and extremely helpful. I feel very confident and prepared to accomplish my long term goal to become a GM of a WNBA franchise. Basketball is my passion! SMWW is awesome and definitely worth 8 weeks of your time!

  • With work and school every day, I found it difficult to expand my knowledge in the sports field and fit a class with a fixed time into my busy schedule. The online Basketball GM course was a great fit for me; I was able to learn and complete my assignments at my own pace and on my own schedule. This course has also been a great tool for networking with individuals across the country that possess the same interests and career goals as I. The information I have obtained and the teachings that this course provides have been invaluable for my growth in the 'sports world' and I strongly recommend it to all those who would like to get a behind the scenes look at how an NBA Front Office functions.

  • The SMWW Basketball training course for General Manager and Scouting provided over and beyond the typical rudiments of insider knowledge that is so necessary for the fast track world of professional sports. The cutting edge classroom environment provided by SMWW coupled with flexible teaching methodologies serves the most seasoned basketball student and novice with the equal insight for what it takes to be progressive in Basketball management and scouting. Their is one other important factor not captured by the class title... the support of SMWW staff, Ed Gregory, Chad Ford, and Frank Burlison was most exceptional in all facets of assisting students in their bid for knowledge and the "how to" for the proper professional sports job approach needed by students.

  • Taking the Sports Business Management and Basketball GM & Scouting courses provided me with the confidence to start my own online sports venture.

I interviewd Billy King, President and General Manager of the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for my Basketball GM & Scouting project.

I have since met with him on other occasions to discuss salary cap management and personnel issues.

SMWW should be applauded for training and empowering individuals to pursue their dreams.

To Lynn, Liz and the entire SMWW team, I say keep up the good work.

  • I enjoyed the reading material both the Baseball and Football courses offered. Also, the discussions were very thought provoking. The best part was being able to post at any time, from any place. The scouts I interviewed were very eager to impart their knowledge and experiences to me. Overall, these courses were intense but rewarding. I am a full time student, and I will be able to transfer credits
gained from these two courses to my university. The staff was easy to contact, and
flexible when I was out of the country.

  • There is no "set in stone" way to get your foot in the door to get your career started in the world of sports, but SMWW could be the most helpful. It breaks down all the aspects that front office executives take into account for their job. Exploring how the NBA world operates, and then speaking to a former and still current personnel for online debates, was something very valuable.

Thanks to this course I have made contacts within Basketball Teams and hopefully I can progress within this industry.

  • I never really believed in testimonials, because I thought it was something that companies posted up to sell you something, but this is real. The Basketball GM & Scouting course is the best thing that happened to me. The funny thing is I always wanted to learn about the NBA and scouting and the operations of an NBA GM, but I didn't know how to achieve that. I literally fell into this, because I remember searching for something else on the net and I saw the SMWW ad and when I clicked it and read through everything, I called them right away asked them a few questions and sigend up within a week. If you're like me and would love to work in sports, and want to actually feel good about doing something you love, and waking up in the morning and running to work rather than hoping you had the day off, then sign up you wont be disappointed.

  • I have learned a lot in the Basketball GM and Scouting course and have been able to carry this forward into the world of high school scouting. The resources and help from experts have shown some new options when it comes to evaluating talent. I loved this course!

  • My favorite part of the Basketball GM & Scouting course was the management section. It gave me some tools other than "my eyes" on how to discover and chose player. Too many times people think to know everything, taking part in the course I could learn that you can't always listen to everybody, that is better to ignore things and learn them in the right way and from the right people. I hope to take Athlete Management next!

  • I am a High School math teacher and basketball coach. When this past high school season ended, I was anxious to keep basketball season going besides just watching the NBA games. One day on the web I came across this basketball course from SMWW. I was very skeptical at first, but I thought that it may open new doors for me. The results have been fantastic. I enjoy reading the material and commenting on it in our discussions. We have 2 min drills which test our knowledge of the reading; we have a final paper and we comment on one another's work. What I like best are our Sunday "chats" with actual scouts and people in the business. What a great idea this is!! There are people to interface with, and everyone is passionate about the game and very nice. I have found I have a lot to learn, but I do know a lot already, and I feel strongly that I could have an impact on an NBA team as a scout or in the player personnel department. This course is well worth the time! Basketball is my passion.

  • The Basketball and Scouting GM Course has provided me with the knowledge and tools to obtain a position in Player Personnel. The audio chats were extremely beneficial in learning what it takes to be successful. As a result of the course, I have made great contacts and participated in assisting NBA scouts with research projects. If you are serious about having a career in basketball, this course is essential in getting you started.
