This week, we are proud to highlight SMWW Global Ambassador Hubert Register, based in Lorient, Brittany, France. Hubert’s career embodies international leadership, athlete development, and strategic growth in sports management, reflecting SMWW’s mission to empower sports professionals through education, mentorship, and global collaboration.

From Professional Athlete to Sports Executive

Hubert Register’s journey in sports began as a professional basketball player. After graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1995 with a degree in Engineering and Engineering Technology, he was drafted by the CBA’s Rockford Lightning in 1996. Following a standout performance in the NBA-sanctioned Chicago Summer League, Hubert took his talents overseas, joining Levallois Sporting Club Basket (now Metropolitan 92) in France.

In just his second year, Hubert helped lead the youngest team in French history to a National Title, creating a legacy that inspired the next generation of French basketball talent, including future stars like Tony Parker and Joakim Noah.

Transitioning Into Sports Management

After retiring from professional basketball in Paris, Hubert pursued a Master’s in Sports Management at the University of Creteil (2011). During this time, he completed SMWW’s Sports Administration Course, blending his athletic experience with a deep understanding of sports operations and management.

Hubert immediately applied this knowledge to assist in reorganizing the administrative and operational structure of one of his former teams, leading them to two of their most successful seasons under his leadership in the front office.

Leadership in European and Global Sports

Hubert has played key roles in international sports administration and consulting:

• Athletic Director, INSEEC University (Paris XVI, 2016–2019)
  Oversaw programs in basketball and entertainment, managing high-profile projects and mentoring future sports executives.

• FC Lorient Soccer Academy (France, 2019–present)
  Focuses on creating sustainable relationships and partnerships between European clubs, French sports academies, and international organizations.

• HFR Consulting
  As owner and managing director, Hubert specializes in cultural liaison services and global strategic business development, connecting international sports entities with corporate opportunities in the European Union.
