NFLPA Certification Prep FAQ
Becoming an NFL Agent
How hard is the NFLPA test?
The NFLPA test is a sixty minute exam administered within a three hour window, and it is widely regarded as one of the toughest certification exams in professional sports. Only about twenty five percent of first time test takers pass, but students who complete SMWW's NFLPA Certification Prep course pass at a rate of eighty-five percent, which reflects the value of studying directly under a former NFL agent rather than preparing alone.
What is the passing score of the NFLPA test?
A passing score on the NFLPA test is seventy or higher out of one hundred.
How many certified NFL agents are there?
There are more than 850 certified NFL agents currently active with the NFL Players Association, which makes passing the exam a meaningful differentiator in a competitive field.
Can you be an NFL agent without a degree?
The NFLPA generally requires both an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree to sit for certification. That requirement can be waived for applicants who can demonstrate at least seven years of sufficient negotiating experience, at the NFLPA's discretion. If you would rather begin working right away without waiting on certification, you can also join SMWW’s Agent Advisor program! as a non certified agent.
Who is considered the number one NFL agent?
Drew Rosenhaus is widely regarded as the top NFL agent, based on the size of his client roster and the value of the contracts he has negotiated over his career.
How do I pass the NFLPA test on my first attempt?
The best way to prepare is to take a dedicated prep course taught by someone who has actually sat on the other side of the table. SMWW's NFLPA Certification Prep course is led by a former NFL agent, and eighty-five percent of students who complete the course pass the NFLPA test on their first try.
Do You Need to Be a Lawyer to Become a NFLPA Agent?
No, you do not need to be a lawyer to become an NFLPA agent. While some agents do have legal backgrounds, many successful NFLPA agents build their careers through the right training and a genuine passion for football instead. SMWW's NFLPA Certification Prep Course is designed to provide all the essential tools needed to succeed, with no law degree required.
What Makes a Great NFLPA Agent?
Being an NFLPA agent is about far more than knowing the law. It is about building authentic relationships, earning trust, and helping athletes achieve their goals. Athletes tend to choose agents who are genuine, friendly, and dependable, who carry real integrity and character, and who are ready to go above and beyond for their clients. When it comes to navigating contracts or legal fine print, that is exactly what lawyers are there to handle.
