SMWW Client Gets First Start of the NFL Season
Matt Moore Last Sunday was a big day for SMWW client Matt Moore, who quarterbacked the Carolina Panthers to a 16-6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Getting his first start of the season, the former Oregon State signal caller connected on 14 of his 20 passes for 161 yards in place of Jake Delhomme, who is nursing a broken finger.
Moore was cautious in his approach to this game as the Panthers stuck mostly to the ground. But he did hit Steve Smith on a 66-yard bomb to set up a field goal that iced the game. It was Carolina's longest pass play of the season. Here's what he told the Rock Hill, S.C., Herald after the game:
"If we win, it's still a good day," Moore said. "The big play to Smitty helps, but I had to come in to this thing and be right. I didn't have to be perfect. I had to just be right, making the throws that are right, checking the ball down, taking what's there and moving the ball.
"If we're running first and second down and we're throwing for 3 yards on third down and that's it but we're converting, then so be it."
Moore was an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State in 2007 who originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
He's been with SMWW from the start of his pro career. He led OSU to a 10-win season as a senior, culminated by a record-setting performance in the Sun Bowl that earned him the MVP award for that game.
Moore is represented by SMWW Agent Advisor, Joe Aloisi. Aloisi and all SMWW Agent Advisors are graduates of SMWW's Athlete Management Course.
Synergy Sports and Digital Video Editing
 Synergy
One of the most popular courses among the curriculum at SMWW is Digital Video Editing. And it's no wonder why. Students are allowed to learn this valuable new skill from the people who have pioneered its use.
The Denver Post recently wrote about our partners for this course, Synergy Sports Technology. And it leaves little doubt about how important this new technology is to sports franchises.
"Synergy uses freelance "loggers" who chart every NBA game, logging each play so it can be paired with video.
Synergy also logs college and international basketball games. All told, there are nearly 100 "loggers" around the world. That enables Synergy to dissect not only NBA games, but provide scouting reports on players for the NBA draft.
During the season, video technology can mean the difference between winning and losing."
The SMWW course provides an opportunity to become one of those "loggers" of games. Along the way, many graduates of this course become so proficient in digital video editing that they have been able to land jobs with sports teams in the video departments.
It's a great way to get a foothold on an NBA coaching staff. Several current NBA assistant coaches - and at least one NBA head coach - began their careers in the video department of their team.
No wonder it's one of our most popular courses!

SMWW Introduces Virtual Internship Program
NEW!
Sports Management Worldwide offers a Virtual Internship Program for those undergraduate students needing to fulfill their university internship requirements for graduation. Traditionally, internships require a student to leave his or her campus and work full time for a sports entity. When a student has on-campus responsibilities this can be prohibitive. For financial reasons, they may not be able to leave their current environment due to job, family, or personal reasons. Therefore SMWW has created the Virtual Internship Program. This allows the college student to meet graduation requirements and stay in his or her current environment.

The Virtual Internship Program is:
  • a non-paid "college credit" only opportunity
  • offered spring, summer, fall and winter terms
  • offers flexible start and finish dates
  • available from any online computer.
  • for undergraduate college students wishing to launch a career in sports management, sports leadership, and/or sports business
  • paid for by the university via a SMWW preferred partnership, or by the individual student
  • customized to the student's career path and goalsrequires short term but limited travel
