Every year 20 top flight rugby teams from England, France, Ireland, Wales Italy and Scotland compete in the European Rugby Champions Cup.

Inclusion in this event is a major honor, signifying your team has placed at the top of the table for your respective league. It is truly a best of the best competition.

In May 2019 the European Rugby Champions Cup will take place at St. James Park in Newcastle, and the event director is none other than our own Rugby Business Management course mentor Mick Hogan.

"We’re very excited to be hosting the 2019 finals and with the city’s excellent reputation from the success of hosting Rugby World Cup and Aviva Premiership matches at the stadium, we’re looking forward to an incredible weekend next May.”

The chance to see Europe’s elite rugby franchises compete head to head has fans of the sport anxious to book their place for the best weekend in European rugby.

"Demand is set to be huge for these games," added Hogan. “Everyone involved in organizing Newcastle 2019 cannot wait to host supporters from across the continent and we hope

they are looking forward to joining us for the games."

A total of 20 teams qualify for the competition, most of which are selected based on their position within their particular league.

  • Top 6 teams from the English Premiership
  • Top 6 teams in the French Top 14 league
  • Top 7 teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales based on standing in the Pro14 league
  • The final team is chosen via established criteria to allow the best remaining unqualified team in any league a chance at competing

This will be one of the largest sports event weekends in all of Europe next year, and our Rugby Business Management mentor Mick Hogan will be in charge.
