Making Sports Careers Happen

Continuing Our Success, One Student At A Time

Before SMWW came into existence, sports careers for many individuals were nothing more than pleasant dreams revisisted on weekends. But by training every- day people to compete and succeed in the world of athletics, we've gone a long way to change that

SMWW's Athlete Management Course and agent advisor program are revolutionizing the sports agent industry and changing the way in which pro athletes are represented. We're proving every day that it is personal relationships, not massive corporate agencies, which are required to meet the many needs of today's athletes. This is why regular folks like Boston based Andrew Fiori are having so much success. Here is what Andrew Fiori had to say about the course:

"Taking the Athlete Management course was probably the best decision I ever made. It is perfect for anyone who wants to know what being a sports agent is all about or if anyone has ever thought about becoming an agent. This 8-week interactive course covers the history and evolution of the agent industry and how it has affected sports today," said Fiori.

"The online chat hosted by Dr. Lashbrook is the best part. It is where other agent hopefuls can discuss the material as well as the current events in the sports agent industry. I have decided to make this into my career. I currently already have 5 clients including a top prospect in baseball’s minor league system. What you choose to do with it is up to you."

Andrew isn't alone. Students taking all of our courses are realizing their dreams.

John Maynard, currently enrolled in SMWW's Baseball General Manager and Scouting Course, is already an associate scout, which is the first step to scouting in the big leagues and working in a front office. And he hasn't even completed the course yet!

The simple truth is that many of our students don't have to wait eight weeks to see their prospects improve dramatically.

Andy Hollander of Virginia, a 25 year consumer sales vet who is taking Sports Business Management from SMWW instructors Bret Polvorosa and Tom Leip, wants a career change and has always wanted to work in sports. And he has immediately reaped the benefits of SMWW's clout and networking capabilities, earning an internship within a Division-1 athletic department. Andy has also been called to interview with pro sports teams and other organizations. He credits Polvorosa, Leip and SMWW President Dr. Lynn Lashbrook with helping him polish his sales skills and for "giving me the confidence to go out and push" for a sports career.

"It's been great working with Dr. Lashbrook, Tom Leip and Bret Polverosa,” says Hollander. “I was tired of my job and decided that it was time to have some fun with my career. I've always wanted to work in sports. This is the first schooling I've had in 25 years, and it's been a great experience."

There's never been a better time to join the SMWW family. We're experiencing tremendous success and would be honored to help you do the same. Please visit www.sportsmanagementworldwide.com for more information.

Athletic Director Program - Starts Jan. 16th!

As resources become more scarce, funding has to drastically change, and with it the role of the athletic director must change.

SMWW's New Era Athletic Director Course is designed to launch you into the future. Its goal is to develop a new generation of athletic directors by creating programs that are unique to high school sports. We examine the old problems in a new light to inspire creative solutions using new technology.

Athletic directors today can't afford to rely on over worked parents to run fundraisers. Technology has made it possible to create new revenue streams by out-sourcing concession stands, selling new age corporate sponsorships and tickets with permission based "e" marketing campaigns.

Current ADs can receive graduate credit for continuing education requirements. Learn from the past and embrace the future!

If you’re willing to do what it takes to become an AD, SMWW has the means to get you where you want to go. Call us today at 1-877-SMWW-NOW or visit us at www.sportsmanagementworldwide.com. Let us help you make your dreams a reality.

Sports Business News Roundup

Eagles Say Cowboys Tampering In Owens Situation

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles have filed a complaint with the NFL accusing Dallas Cowboy Jerry Jones of tampering because of comments he made on a radio show about Terrell Owens. Though Jones said he was "deliberately avoiding saying whether or not the Cowboys would be interested," he spoke in general terms that made it obvious whom he was talking about.

Owens' Suspension, Deactivation Upheld

The Delaware News Journal reports on arbitrator Richard Bloch's ruling that the Eagles were within their rights to suspend T.O. for four games then deactivate him -- with pay -- for the final five games of the NFL season.

Sports Agent To Head Up Golf Network

The Scotsman reports that sports agent Jerome Anderson has become chairman of Golfers Connect, a new Scottish golfers' networking company as it looks to raise funds for expansion. The firm has been set up by former top Scottish amateur golfer David Downie to target high-earning players and provide financial support to aspiring young players.

South Carolina Sports Agency Wins Over $2 Million

The Columbia State reports that a jury has awarded $2.7 million to Vortex Sports and Entertainment, a Columbia sports agency that claimed a larger agency illegally lured away an agent who represented NFL players. The jury found that Chicago-based CSMG Inc. interfered with a "contractual relationship" and "fiduciary duty" involving Vortex and R. David Ware, a former co-owner of and agent with Vortex.

SFX Relationship May End Kentucky Basketball Player's Eligibility

The AP reports that the NCAA is expected to hear an appeal from the University of Kentucky next week over the eligibility of basketball star Randolph Morris who, after his freshman season last year, entered the NBA draft. At issue is what sort of relationship Morris had with sports agency SFX -- which issued a June 21 statement on his behalf -- and whether that relationship constituted an agreement with the agency. If it did, that would end Morris' collegiate eligibility. Morris attended an SFX workout at the Chicago Pre-draft combine in which the gym was paid for by the agency. Under NCAA rules, student athletes are not permitted to receive any benefits from a sports agent.

Derek Watson Gets Activated!

After spending most of the season on Tampa Bay's practice squard, Running Back Derek Watson was signed for the second time this season to the active roster.

Dr. Lynn Lashbrook, President of Sports Management Worldwide, received several phone calls from the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, including a call from GM Ozzie Newsome, in an attempt to sign Watson to a contract.

Dr. Lashbrook immediately called Emery Williams, Watson's agent advisor, and asked him to call Watson and notify him of the developments. Dr. Lashbrook then contacted Tampa Bay to give them an opportunity to sign Watson first.

Tampa Bay didn't hesitate and sent a contract within the hour to retain Watson's rights. After discussing the options with Watson and Emery Williams, it was decided that it was best for Derek to stay with Tampa Bay.

It was an exciting day for everyone involved.
