The Future of Basketball Scouting & Video Editing
Basketball GM & Scouting Course students will get the opportunity to be exposed to the cutting edge video scouting techniques being used by many teams in the NBA, college basketball and high level international leagues. Video editing positions are one of the best ways to break into the NBA, so students in the Basketball GM & Scouting Course with SMWW, will come away with a specific skill set that will separate them from other candidates. Each student will be provided with a login to Synergy Sports Technology's website and will be asked to complete a video editing exercise.
Synergy Sports Technology is a technology company that provides a real-time video-indexing statistical engine and online retrieval platform to the sports and entertainment industry. Synergy captures every NBA game (and games from several other markets) and subsequently logs every possession. The output is the most comprehensive scouting database for player and team tendencies. Numerous SMWW students have been hired by Synergy upon graduation.
Professional and collegiate sports teams log on to Synergy's website and have access to the largest collection of cataloged sports video in the world. With a few mouse clicks, a user can pull up all of Steve Nash's pick and rolls on the left side where he dribbled off the pick and make a dribble jumper from less than 10 feet. Never before have sports professionals had access to such a wide-ranging collection of scouting tools.
Snyergy is used primarily by professional and amateur basketball teams. Currently, 27 of the 30 NBA teams use Synergy’s web-based services for, among other things, evaluating players for the draft, trades and free agency, developing the team’s own players and for scouting opponents. Synergy staff logs every possession of every basketball game according to team-specified criteria. Resulting data is then interlaced with league-generated stats to produce visual displays that provide intelligence on player and team tendencies. SMWW students are introduced to Synergy in the Basketball GM & Scouting Course. For those looking to “get paid to watch basketball,” the Digital Video Editing Course, a full 8 week training course with Synergy is recommended.
NBA TV, NBA.com & EA Sports
Synergy has a multi-year licensing agreement with the NBA that provides NBA TV and NBA.com access to Synergy products and services. In addition, Synergy has a partnership with EA Sports which calls for the developer and publisher of interactive entertainment and games software to incorporate data from Synergy into its products. NBA Live is a series of basketball video games produced by EA Sports. The brain behind the game is powered by Synergy Sports Technology. Upon graduation, students will be able to list their experience with Synergy Sports Technology on their resume and be prepared to answer questions in the interview process with teams and basketball entities.
