Digital Video Editing Course Testimonials

What people in the sports world are saying about SMWW's Digital Video Editing Course!

  • Sports Management Worldwide really opened the door into the sporting world for me. Taking the digital video editing class really gave me an introduction into what video editing in sports was. Only several weeks into the course I was able to get a job with the University of Oklahoma Sooners basketball team assisting as a video editor for the team. Being only a freshman in college it really has opened the doors for me and started on my journey of one day becoming a general manger in the NBA. Thanks,

    Ethan Burton

  • My dream and passion has always been to work in the NBA and be a GM but I did not know the steps to take to get there. With this course and the Basketball GM and Scouting Course I was able to learn, make contacts in the industry, and receive the necessary encouragement and motivation to pursue my dream. I am now working for the Portland Trail Blazers!!!!

  • I just completed my first season as the Video Coordinator of the Los Angeles Kings. It was after my first season in the internship in Columbus Blue Jackets that I took your course. I feel like I gained knowledge about the scouting and management side of the sport that I would otherwise not have known had I simply just gone through the Video Analysis side.

  • Digital Video Editing course is an excellent way to get your foot in the door as a video coordinator. If you look at most NBA teams basketball operations staff, At least 4 staff employees started off as video coordinators on every team. Now there scouts, director of player personnel, and GM's. For me personally, I got a job with Synergy Sports Technology as a Phase 2 logger. I break down College and NBA clips and log them in to there program. Overall this class was an excellent way to learn Digital Video Editing and to find a job in what I love to do. I would reccommend this to anybody that's interested in being a video coordinator for a college or pro team.

  • "If you're interested in pursuing a career in sports video editing, taking the digital video editing course with Synergy is the perfect way to get started. • I started the class in the spring and learned a lot about how professional sports teams use Synergy's software for their success as a franchise. As part of the course, I was able to meet with the Asst Video Coordinator for the Memphis Grizzlies. To make a long story short, I am now a Memphis Grizzlies Team Attendant and I believe that if it wasn't for SMWW, I wouldn't have had this opportunity to even have my resume looked at. My connection with SMWW made it possible for me to get my foot in the door of a professional organization and grow from there. I'm still not through as I will continue my education with SMWW and attempt to do bigger and better things.

Synergy Sports Technology

Synergy Sports Technology

Synergy is a state-of-the-art revolutionary company takes game film and cuts it up into "possession clips" in real time. The games are and logged according to generally-accepted professional play-type categories including the players involved together with the fine-grained details of the play's results including both offense and defense.

Synergy Sports Technology has been approached by all the major professional sports in regards to expanding their service to include footage and break downs for all sports. Synergy has started research in each area in order to create appropriate logging methods as well as various output views.

Synergy's Local Acquisitions Editor uses the same basic principles as most major sports editing software packages while combining several unique features that can be used both on their own and in conjunction with Synergy's professional website applications. Synergy's Editor was created by a design team lead by Garrick Barr, Synergy's CEO and an ex-Video Coordinator with over a decade of experience, as well as consultants currently working as Video Coordinators in professional sports.

Some highlights of Synergy's service include:

  • Teams log onto the Synergy website from anywhere in the world and stream automated video edits from college or professional games.
  • Synergy lets you "follow your nose" like never before to become familiar with players or teams in a very short period of time: Tired of watching a player's pick and rolls? Switch to his isos, spot-ups, transitions or any other play-type without having to wait for a video staff member to work up requested edits.
  • Whenever watching video, staff can easily tag favorite clips to create their own custom edits for others to watch. Any staff member you authorize can watch these edits from anywhere in the world on the Synergy website.
  • Custom edits created by a team's staff (as well as Synergy's automated edits) can be viewed in a wide variety of ways including iPods, DVDs, VHS tape or computer projection. You can even stream video to Smart Phones.
  • When on the road, clients can transfer video to their laptop's hard drive for portable viewing while on a plane or bus, etc. Due to our advanced technology, games are downloaded very quickly and several games can be downloaded overnight without a hitch..
  • Games are available to watch as they occur. Synergy logs in "real-time" so there is very little lag time between the action and your ability to watch it.

CEO Garrick Barr founded Synergy Sports Technology in 2004. With over 20 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience, including 11 years at the Phoenix Suns, Garrick has been responsible for numerous sports technology innovations. Garrick was the first to use non-linear (digital) editing equipment in sports and became Avid Sports Pro's chief design contributor. This advisory capacity continued with numerous vendors until Garrick struck out on his own when he developed Quantified Scouting Service (QSS) in 1998. QSS logged each and every NBA possession to produce highly sophisticated player tendencies reports used by many league champions. When the technological landscape evolved to the point that it would support a video version of the QSS product, Garrick left the Suns to start his new company.

Synergy's development team is headed by Chief Technology Officer Nils Lahr. Nils is one of the country's top pioneers of Digital Media and is responsible for many milestone advancements within the industry over the last decade. Nils was on the design team for the original Windows Media product and later headed up video streaming for corporate clients at Microsoft. Nils has extensive experience in the operations of global networking services and has invented technologies that run to scale on such networks. Nils' expertise commands the attention of companies such as Disney, CNN, Warner Brothers, the Air Force and others. His vast experience has allowed Nils to design a system for Synergy that evolves to continuously take advantage of new technological innovations to pass on the enormous benefits to NBA teams.
