From SMWW to the Hardcourt

Sports Business Management Grad Christopher Codero shares his success story in his own words:

"SMWW has been a great help in achieving my goal of working in sports. Since I was young and realized that, more than likely, I would not be able to play sports professionally - I figured my best option would be to work in sportsDwayne Wade and Chris Cordero. I spent my free time studying sports; how the business works, what it takes to make it in the field, and trying to meet people who could help me achieve my goal.

After trying to get into the sports world on my own, and finding how difficult it really was, I thought to myself "Maybe I should get some help." While exploring the internet, I came across Sports Management WorldWide, and was very intrigued. I gave the office a call and was referred to Sports Business Management class. I had an extensive background in Sales; and while it is not my love or passion; it is something that I am good at - and it is my foot in the door. I took the class and learned much of what it takes to work in the business side of sports - marketing, sales, etc. With the help of Bret Polvorosa and Tom Leip, I was able to secure my first position in April of 2008 with the Florida Marlins. It was a great experience with a great manager who also taught me a lot about the business.

After working with the Marlins for two months (working there and at another job by the way, you have to make sacrifices), I came across some information that the Miami Heat had Full-Time openings for Account Manager positions. I made the move over to the Heat and within two months of hard work (two jobs still), a lot of phone calls, and convincing people that Miami Heat was the place to be in South Florida; I was promoted to the Full-Time position that I now occupy here with the Heat.

Since then, it has been a pretty crazy, and exciting, 9 Months with the organization. I have had many great opportunities to be involved with the team and just being around the day to day happenings makes me feel like what I do is imperative to the success of the team (I know, I know D-Wade is MOST important to the teams success, but I do my part) - I help get the fans in the building and that gives me a sense of accomplishment when I see the Arena rocking and rolling.

I owe a lot to SMWW, as they have been a big part of what I have accomplished - and I believe in what they do for people like me all over the world. "

SMWW Graduates Now Working in Sports
Jason Lottman took the Sports Business Management course back in 2005 and is now putting the skills he learned to use working as in Marketing for the Crystal Palace Soccer Club in Baltimore MD. Jason is a great example of how education is a lasting investment. Congratulations Jason!

Also, a big congratulations to Josh Stoller who recently was promoted to Senior Account Executive for the MilwaBrewers Logoukee Brewers. Josh graduated the Sports Business Management course in 2006 and at the time was managing a BP Gas Station. Shortly after graduation, Josh landed a position with the Brewers and has been moving up ever since. Congratulations Josh!

"It's Not Easy, but it Can Be With Help..."

...This was a quote from agent advisor Reggie Jackson as he finalized talks with New Orleans Saints to bring his client Dion Gales in for a workout on April 9th.  Reggie has been an Agent Advisor with SMWW since January of 2008 and has grown immensely from the CIFL talks about his first client Austin Smith, Boise State defensive back a year ago, to co-representing an athlete eligible for the 2009 NFL draft. A feat some would say was unfeasible; however for Reggie it was the passion to be an agent that drove him to SMWW. Motivation, ambition and according to Jackson, "a little help from Dr. Lashbrook to get rolling" had a positive impact on his growth form year one to year two. Reggie Williams,
                                                Dion Gales
Reggie now has goals for himself as an agent advisor to be at the table on draft day when negotiations happen for one of his clients. With any luck, this goal will come to fruition late in the day on Sunday the 26th of April when NFL teams begin to finalize their draft day decisions.

Agent Advisors are graduates of the Athlete Management Course.
