  • SMWW Grad Covers Beijing Olympics:
SMWW Sports Broadcasting Grad, Don Oyao, had the summer of a lifetime reporting for KCXL Integrity Sports at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Through his affiliation with Seychelles National Olympics, Oyao was able to travel the world consulting as a sports doctor and in his spare time, reporting on the games he attended.
For three months leading up to the Summer Olympics, Oyao covered events in St. Petersburg, Russia, Bologna, Italy, Cairo, Egypt, Paris, France and then finally the Olympics in Bejing. Every Wednesday, Listeners in Kansas City, MO heard Oyao's take on international competition and the events of the Olympic Games.
"SMWW Sports Broadcasting Program has allowed me to express much of my internalized sports knowledge through the medium of radio," Said Oyoa. "My love for sports and now my ability to share my passion and knowledge for sport has taken far and outreaching steps that I only had dreamed about, now it is becoming a reality."

    Don Oyao
  • Thanks to Brian Wheeler and Steve Nash and SMWW I have accepted a job as the radio voice for minor league baseball. The live audio chats and mentoring I received was unbelievable. If you want to become a sports broadcaster, do play by play, or work in sports radio, this course is a MUST!

  • SMWW is a unique educational system. In this time of economic chaos, students want to secure an education that will give them a return on their investment. Having been a former professor, I have designed a few certificates to try and enforce courses targeted at helping the student achieve success in the "real world". I have many times been let down because of feeling like a little ship on a big ocean. Coaching basketball for six years was the only time I felt any success so I have returned to my passion with an institution that cares about it's students success.

  • The hands-on experience you gain from the job shadow and informational interviews and play by play segments give the student the experience he or she could not get without having job experience in the field. SMWW helps the student realize if they have the passion to pursue a particular field.

  • I do not believe there is a better way to gain exposure to this much substantial material in a shorter period. You simply cannot effectively learn more in less time. Also the Audacity training tool is a gift that keeps on giving being that it can be used for the rest of your career as a broadcaster.

This course has done a great job preparing me for the world of broadcasting and radio. It has focused my passion for sports into an up and coming and exciting career in sports broadcasting. • The SMWW course has taught me the world of sports broadcasting. The importance of being informative is probably the most important thing I learned. Another key point is who you know to land a job. My favorite part was the weekly chats. It's fun to talk sports and be mentored by educated sports buffs.

SMWW Student Interviews Erin Andrews at ESPN College Game Day

Another Sports Broadcasting Success Story
From Michael Lloyd, SMWW Alumni:

Dear Potential Sports Broadcasting Student:

The only radio work I was doing was a "great pretend job" in my car as I drove around. I had always wanted to do sports broadcasting. ESPN became a local station in my town here in South Carolina. I listened all 8 hours during my job. That's when I heard the SMWW commercial. I thought about it, but told myself I didn't have the time, nor the money. Well, a few months later I heard the ad again. I looked up the website on the computer and liked what I read.

I signed up and received my material a week or two before classes started. I loved the exercises assigned by the instructors and the materials. I called my local show host to do my work study portion of the course and worked with them on my project. This really made me feel that I could be a sports radio show host!

I called several stations trying to get some air time. Nobody was interested. But I didn't give up.

Well, about this time a sales man at the station 100.1 The Fan got an opportunity to do a trial show. I emailed them an explained that I had received SMWW Sports Broadcasting training and just wanted to sit in on the show a couple of times. From my training at SMWW, they were impressed, and asked the production manager if I go on the air the next week. I then went on from guest hosting on Tuesdays, to Tuesdays and Thursdays! The show is, "The Open Mike" with Mike and Lee, and I am the guest host Mic'T.

Recently I have gone out on my own, and I am the sole proprietor of "Onda Ball Sportz". Thanks to the training at SMWW, I have just worked out my advertisement agreements, and developed a show format. I have negotiated and am in the progress of broadcasting my own show "Bleecher Talk". It will be simulcast on two am stations in two separate towns. Once the show get's going, I will do daily or bi-weekly sports updates for the station.

Thanks to my training at SMWW, I am negotiating with a local business to back a local high school and I will broadcast their football games.

Thanks to SMWW, I have my own radio show and I have successfully started my sports broadcasting career!
