Motor Sports in the Spotlight

Businesses and sponsors are looking to cash in on the growing success and popularity of motor sports.

A multi-billion dollar a year business, motor sports is attracting not only more fans, but more business as well.

"Racing is one of the only sports where a sponsor gets to put their logo on the athlete. That is exactly the exposure a brand is looking for when advertising," says Tom Blattler, SMWW's Motor Sports Management instructor.

The growth of motor sports is hitting the media as well. Racing has now moved beyond the traditonal sports media into news.

Recently National Public Radio's, Day to Day, featured a story on the Long Beach Grand Prix. Produced by independent radio producer Barrett Golding of Hearing Voices, the piece focused on the fans of auto racing.

"NASCAR has been booming lately, and is America's favorite; but now that Danica won an open-wheel race, I think we'll see USA fans flocking to the Indy circuit too," says Golding.

With such growth, jobs in the motor sports industry are  growing too. Recent SMWW Motor Sports Management
grad, Ed Williams, is now working in the communications department of the Detroit Grand Prix. You can get a career in motor sports with the skills gained through SMWW's Motor Sports Management training program.
