Hockey Analytics Course Become a Part of Hockey's Statistical Revolution!
Analytics has taken the sports industry by storm and nowhere is there greater upside and career potential than in the world of hockey.
While baseball and football have become the standard bearers for analytics, due in part to their fantasy sports appeal, hockey teams that have embraced statistical analysis are seeing a direct correlation to team performance, and ultimately, the win column.
SMWW will teach you the skills needed to become a part of hockey's statistical revolution!
Led by Mike Oke, General Manager of the Peterborough Petes, with weekly training with statstrak staff, our 8-week online Hockey Analytics course will help you advance your career in hockey.
Unlike most online classes, we focus our program on audio chats directly with your course mentors, which allows you the opportunity to build personal relationships and rapport with these successful leaders in the world of hockey analytics. After completing our Hockey Analytics course, we will help you redesign your resume to highlight your new skills including statstrak efficiency. Now that is powerful!
"Analytics is one of the fastest growing jobs types in the market according to our research. Hockey teams are hiring now, this is a new career path with vast potential," says Dr. Lynn Lashbrook, President of SMWW. "Our goal with this 8-week course is to have you trained and volunteering with a hockey team using statstrak training you have learned. Teams want this information, but don't have the expertise."
Sports analytics is a field still in its infancy, with new ways of carving up and interpreting data emerging daily. By taking this course you'll have the chance to be on the leading edge of the hockey analytics trend.
One of the key determinations derived from analytics in hockey is that puck possession relates directly to winning. But how do you determine puck possession?
Advanced statistics like SAT% help determine puck possession and in turn, how to play winning hockey – proven by the fact that 5 of the last 7 Stanley Cup winners have ranked in the top 4 in the NHL in SAT%.
What is SAT%? How do you calculate it? How do you get your team to improve their SAT%? How do you draft players and build a roster that will compliment this team philosophy? How do you use the statistical data to positively affect your team?
These are exactly the skills you will learn as part of our 8-week online Hockey Analytics course. In addition to SAT% you'll learn other foundational hockey analytic metrics like:
Corsi, Fenwick, PDO, Zone Starts, and other statistical measures
Sabermetrics in hockey
Roles of Analytics in NHL
What a day in the life of an analyst is really like
Standard and advanced hockey statistics
Data-driven Advanced Scouting and in-game preparation
How to capture & analyze data and video content
Various hockey analytics software options
Statistical solutions used in the NHL

This course has been both an awakening and an inspiration for me. Since I am a European, I never knew the way they played this game overseas. I was amazed at the amount of information about hockey that I hadn't known about. This course was one of my best experiences so far in the hockey world. I hope I can continue my journey after completing this course. This course introduced me to some new things and helped me to put the puzzle together, so to speak, on a number of issues. I gained a different outlook on the game and learned to train my eye much sharper than I ever did before. The weekly chats were invaluable. The Rink Net program was also enlightening. I was not aware there was a program that enabled you to follow every single player in the league. For the last eight weeks, I felt like a sponge who was soaking up every bit of information I could.
For someone who has limited involvement in the business of hockey, yet has a passion for it, this course is a great first step. I was fortunate enough to speak with a member of both the Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Flames organization and the input they were able to give me on what the business involves at the NHL level and junior level gave me a better outlook on the game of hockey. In regards to the Rinknet software, this provide me with a great tool in being able to determine the strengths and flaws of players in a very organized manner.
