Watson Explodes onto NFL Scene in Preseason!
Tampa Bay Coach John Gruden had this to say about his newest running back, SMWW client Derek Watson, "I think if you ask our football team, he would rank out as a very good-looking prospect," Gruden said. "He's an instinctive runner. He can move the pile and punish you. He just gives us a different kind of back. And obviously, bringing him in the second half with a fresh motor, that ignited our team."

Ignite Derek did, burning for 24 yards around the left end on his very first NFL carry! He finished as the game's leading rusher, despite only having 14 carries for 63 yards. Most of the yards came on the first series of the second half in which Derek marched the Bucs down the field. Gruden seemed to want to get Derek the touchdown, giving him the ball several times in a row, but opted to throw it on third and five on the goalline. Parts of this article were taken from the St. Petersburg Times, read the full article below: St Petersburg Times article Rookie Will Get His Reps

We at Sports Management Worldwide are so pleased with Derek's breakout performance, and we will be keeping a close eye on him this season, as well should you! Derek's Agent Advisor, Emery Williams, is making some noise around the NFL as a tremendous trainer, and is getting attention from players all over the country! If you want to be an agent, you need to check out our Agent Advisor Program, and see how you too can get in on the action in the NFL this year, and into next year's draft! It's all about relationships and client services, and we'd love to teach you how, call us today! 1-888-952-4368

Derek Watson's Message Board Link on Bucs Site
Quick Comment off a Message board: "...But Watson excites me the most. I read some guy's posts on this board awhile back and he was all over Watson's jock. I've never seen D-Wat play until last night and he impressed me alot with his running style and vision. He also made a couple blocks. The kind of block that make you forget about the guy that got the first-down or TD. He is definetly a keeper if you ask me, but I was big on Stecker so what do I know? "

Tampa Bay Bucs Out of Nowhere Man Derek Watson
With Cadillac Williams already penciled in as the starting running back and veterans Michael Pittman and Charlie Garner behind him, you wouldn't think there would be much room on the roster for another young back. But the Bucs brass is also somewhat excited about first-year player Derek Watson from South Carolina State. Watson was signed by New England as an undrafted rookie in 2003 but never played for the Pats. He then sat out last season before signing with Tampa Bay in May. Watson has a checkered past, which has hurt him some, but so far he has impressed the Bucs with his ability to pop into the hole and run with power. Watson has the skills to be an effective inside runner. He could be the reason they release Garner as they move to get younger in the backfield.

Hockey's Back! NEW Hockey GM and Scouting Program
New Hockey GM & Scouting Course To Be Offered This Fall!
The NHL is back, and SMWW is proud to announce that we will be offering the Hockey General Manager and Scouting Course in October!

For those wanting to work in hockey in any number of capacities, this course will help you get there and excel. Whether it be player personnel, team management or front office operations, SMWW will give you the neccessary skills and then some!

Students will learn GM responsibilities; contracts, negotiations, trades and acquisitions; all elements of player evaluation; how to identify players bound for the NHL; differences between scouting and rating college and Major Junior hockey talent as it pertains to the NHL draft; NHL war room strategies; differences between traditional and new high tech scouting methods; relationships between professional leagues and minor leagues; media relations and marketing; game operations; franchise, facility and venue operations, and much, much more!

Individuals looking for rapid career advancement within the ranks of professional or collegiate hockey should look no further than our Hockey GM and Scouting Course. Begin your hockey career with SMWW. It's a whole new game!

Dr. Lynn Lashbrook, SMWW President and Founder, thinks hockey has changed for the better. "Because the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) radically changes the salary structure...i.e. salary cap, there's no experienced NHL agent that has an advantage over the rookie agents; it will be a fresh start for everyone. Hockey has never worked with a cap, so NFL and NBA agents that have had experience with capology may have an advantage over agents used to working in the old system."

Applications are not yet being accepted for this course. If you would like more information as it becomes available, email us here and we will add you to our email list.

SMWW Agency Sound Bytes

Heisman Candidate DeAngelo Williams

Matt Brock, Dr. Lashbrook, and Agent Advisor Lee Jones met with U. of Memphis RB DeAngelo William's family over the weekend in DeAngelo's hometown of Wynne, Arkansas. Reports are the meeting went extremely well with the family and they seemed receptive to what we at Sports Management Worldwide had to say, and liked our model of building relationships, especially with family members in the process. Sports Management Worldwide is attempting to be one of the final three agencies to possibly represent DeAngelo.

We are proud to announce that Agent Advisor Jason McCleary has signed D.C. United player Tim Merritt.

Rosenhaus Can't Survive Without A Public Crisis
SMWW has made it clear where it stands on Mega- Shark NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus. Always in the media and defensive about his own tactics, this guy hasn't grasped the concept of "behind-the-scenes." In recent months Rosenhaus has become topic du jour in the sports media. His holdouts include Eagles star receiver Terrell Owens, Packers wideout Javon Walker and Colts standout running back Edgerrin James, to name just a few.

We will continue to shine the light on Rosenhaus' grievances, as his client theft and flare for creating public dramas with athletic careers has become the norm. SMWW will also continue to point out that Super Drew's three-man Miami-based operation isn't capable of providing around-the-clock representation for 10 checkers players, let alone 90 of the NFL's best.

The representation an athlete receives after a contract is signed is just as important as the attention received prior to inking the dotted line. This is something SMWW recognizes and strives for with our global network of Agent Advisors. Complete, absolute and total representation. Is a super agent like Drew Rosenhaus really capable of providing it?

Athletes, ask yourselves: if agents like Rosenhaus spend 50% of their time defending their own reputations, and another 25% plotting publicity stunts and stealing clients from other agents, will they ever be able to give you the time of day?

The simple truth is that Rosenhaus must constantly create public conflicts and theatrics to survive. He has no experience dealing with anything else other than player/management disputes gone awry, and he makes them more public and ugly. It would seem that a player content with his team and his contract would have little use for someone like Rosenhaus. As the Miami Herald recently noted, the largest surge in Rosenhaus' agency has come in the past year, where roughly 40 players have dropped their agents in favor of Rosenhaus following several high-profile deals and trades.

Crisis and controversy are the bane of Drew Rosenhaus' existence. He is not a "peace time" agent. The thought of him tending to a client's personal needs, rather than his financial, is unimaginable. His trademarks are public renegotiations and holdouts, and a thirst for headlines and cameras that would make the pioneers of this industry cringe.

And just in case you haven't had your fill of Super Drew, ESPN.com's Greg Garber recently wrote on the status of his many holdouts, and the Miami Herald featured him in an article. HBO's "Real Sports" will also be running a profile of Rosenhaus several times this month.

NPI No Pun Intended - Dr. Lashbrook's NEW Column
Sports Management Worldwide is proud to announce the new column by Dr. Lashbrook, NPI, No Pun Intended! The staff here at SMWW has suggested the column be entitled PTI, Pun Totally Intended. As you will read below, Dr. Lashbrook has an affinity for sports, the ethical compass, and last but not least...puns!

Thank you DREW ROSENHAUS for helping SMWW to their best month ever in new students enrolling in ATHLETE MANAGEMENT 400 to become an agent advisor...Does T.O. really believe he is going to win this battle or will he be TKO'd (NPI)...

I wish Arn Tellum, Raphael Palmiero's agent was more concerned about his cleints ethical compass than about the leakage of the confidentiality of the actual steroid he abused. Where has the agent been all of these years while steroids were being ingested by their clients? This whole scandal is hard to digest (NPI)...Speaking of the steroid scandal I love that Colin Cowherd of ESPN is asking where has the media been on this or have they been fooled by the same flax seed ointment Barry Bonds experienced....I guess I shouldn't rub it in (NPI)...

As I watch the changing of the guard in the NHLPA with Bob Goodenow resigning for failing to see the need for compromise I wonder if Donald Fehr is concerned he might be next, I guess we could call it the FEHR FACTOR (NPI)...I am excited about the New NHL and all the rule changes...what a great time to become a hockey agent advisor where no one has the expertise with the new CBA...........I hope ESPN'S EJ Hradek accepts our offer to faciltate our new HOCKEY GM SCOUTING COURSE like fellow ESPN facilitators ROB NEYER AND CHAD FORD...speaking of Chad, congratulations on your move to Hawaii where I hope to see you when I visit over the holidays...speaking of basketball, has anyone noticed the growth of our basketball agency? Talk about Globetrotting! Bill Kent, SMWW Director of Operations, will be traveling with KC Callero throughout Europe this Fall (by the way, I thought Traveling was a violation in Basketball!) (NPI)

I am sure you have been following the NCAA's crackdown on controversial mascots...I was wondering if they would add busters of the BCS (BCSbusters.com) to the list since the BCS is an insult to mankind.

For those of you who have been following us, you know how excited we have been to have a premiere client in the NFL, Derek Watson of the Tampa Bay Bucs. DEREK'S first carry was for 24 yards and needless to say it brought back memories of my first client, Derrick, no relation (NPI) Clark of the Denver Broncos, when he scored two touchdowns in his first NFL game. Congratulations to Emery Williams, agent advisor! It was sure nice after the game back at the hotel where Chris Myer and Ron Jaworski were staying and give them a business card and tell them one of our clients is Derek Watson...do you see what I see about the future SMWW?...What a thrill to have already made presentations for this years recruiting class with DeAngelo Williams (agent advisor Lee Jones) and Haloti Ngata (agent advisor Ron Manu and Harvey Lutu)...in all the years I made presentations to top propects with Jim Steiner and Ben Dogra I must admit having our own Matt Brock, former NFL player and an agent advisor in the room truly makes our company unique and credible...someday the Agent Advisor concept will change the industry forever! By the way since DeAngelo Williams is from Wynne, Arkansas wouldn't his signing to SMWW make it a Wynne-win situation (NPI).

Oh, by the way, did you know the U. of Memphis is promoting Williams's Heisman campaign? A race car driver has a "DeAngelo Williams for Heisman" sponsorhip wrap on a race car...speaking of auto racing, our new Auto Racing Management Course begins this Sunday and not only will the student learn about how to get in the sport but they will learn speed reading as well (NPI)

Finally, keep up the good work Mr. Rosenhaus, you Drew us up a good marketing plan! (NPI) Dr. Lashbrook

Super Agent Premieres On Spike TV

SMWW stresses to anyone interested in taking our Athlete Management Course that being a sports agent isn't rocket science. The new TV reality series "Super Agent" proves our point.

"Super Agent", which premiered on Spike TV Friday, July 22, showcases nine sports agents haggling for the right to represent All American USC defensive tackle Shaun Cody, a blue-chip prospect, who is advised during each episode by Kansas City Chiefs All Pro tight end Tony Gonzales. The eight episodes will culminate at the NFL Draft (where Cody was picked in the early second round by the Detroit Lions). Each week Cody will eliminate an agent who fails to impress him.

The presentations made by some of the agents trying to woo Cody were pretty sloppy. A couple of agents nervously stammered through their pitches, and another gave Cody a brochure claiming to represent a Baltimore Colt, when in fact that franchise relocated to Indianapolis some time ago. But as unimpressive as some of these agents were in their quest to get Cody, all of them are somewhat established in the sports agent community, which goes back to our initial point that ANYBODY can be an agent if they want to.

The potential upside to "Super Agent" is that more and more individuals wanting to work in the agent industry will see the show and say, "I can do that better than them!" We believe more people are realizing that being an agent is in their reach, and not just a career for a select, special few and in turn, the better off the industry will be. It could have a "Jerry Maguire" type of effect and generate a lot of energy, and we hope it does. To learn more about the "Super Agent" contestants, complete bios of each of the nine agents can be read here.

If you're someone who has always wanted to be an agent but haven't pursued it because you thought you weren't qualified enough, "Super Agent" might change your mind. And should you decide to become an agent, SMWW's Athlete Management 400 Course and Agent Advisor program is a great place to start! Click here to enroll now. 1-888- SMWW-NOW
