kristen kuliga smww nfl conference speakerThere are around 2,000 players under contract in the NFL each year, another 500 in the CFL and just under 125 in the AFL. Throw in some smaller leagues across the world and you probably have close to 3,000 men in the world being paid to play football.

That’s it.

Meanwhile, there are approximately 1,000 registered NFL agents certified by the NFLPA, only around 30 of which are women. Football to-date has been a male-dominated world.

For a woman to make it in this field they need special attributes - smart, tough, persistent, undaunted – which exactly describes Kristen Kuliga, one of our featured speakers at the upcoming SMWW NFL Combine Career Conference March 2nd-4th in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kuliga made a name for herself after signing on Doug Flutie as a client and becoming the first woman to represent an NFL player.

“I never looked at myself as a pioneer,” Kuliga told the New York Times. “I just did it. If someone said I couldn’t do it, I found a way.”

In fact, Kuliga recalled a story of another agent addressing her at a football all-star game by saying, “Where I’m from, women would never be allowed to be agents, they’d be in the kitchen.”

Commentaries like this would have dissuaded many others from navigating the all-boys club of the NFL, but not Kuliga. 15 years later, Kuliga’s K Sports and Entertainment is a thriving sports and entertainment management firm representing multiple NFL players.

"I think the most important thing you can do to become an agent is to register for the SMWW NFL Combine Career Conference and then sign up for the SMWW online Athlete Management Course," says Kuliga.
