The Motorsports Management Course will provide an introduction into methods and skills necessary to run a racing team in the highly competitive industry of racing. The Motorsports Management Course will also cover issues including the history of racing around the world, current developments in series and championships, endorsement basics, supplemental revenue for drivers, sponsorships, marketing, event planning, venue management, speedway operations, and basic concepts for team managers that wish to obtain the best results out of their race team and their drivers. Tom Blattler, Jim Utter, Colin Neill, and Dr. Lynn Lashbrook:
Tom Blattler is a motorsports sponsorship, promotions and media relations professional with over 30 years on the business side of racing including a variety of speedway activities. Blattler brings an unmatched background with coordination of race sponsors, racing leagues and media outlets. His personal clients have included KV Racing Technology, Rahal Letterman Racing, Don Prudhomme Racing, Tom Gloy Racing, Miller Brewing, American Honda, Shell Oil, Duracell, Nissan, Pioneer, CARA Charities, motorcycle racing and the SCCA and NHRA. He has introduced and coordinated media relations activities on a national and international level including: the Acura ALMS Racing Program, Miller Lite CART Indy Car, Shell Oil Indy Car, Pioneer Indy Car, Motorola’s Indy Car, Icehouse NASCAR Truck Program, Argent Mortgage Racing Nissan Pathfinder SUV and Nissan “Hardbody” truck. Blattler started his own communication company TB Communications in 1986 and has gone on to assist companies at major automotive events such as the Indy 500, U.S. Formula One Grand Prix and Daytona 500. Blattler and TB Communications have worked with personalities like Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan, Danica Patrick, Buddy Rice, Gil de Ferran, Kenny Brack, Jimmy Vasser, Adrian Fernandez and John Andretti just to name a few. Blattler has won numerous media relations awarded including Best National Sports Charity Media Program (Rahal's Last Ride, 1998), Jim Chapman Award (Top media relations award on the CART Indy Car Series, 1992), Best Automotive Long Lead Program (Nissan Truck Introduction, 1986) and the National Media Award for production of a Special Section (Indy 500, 1990) in USA Today.
Jim Utter has covered NASCAR for the past eight years with The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com. Jim is currently vice president of the National Motorsports Press Association and has won awards for news-breaking stories of NASCAR events by the N.C. Press Association and NMPA. He is an occasional guest on Performance Racing Network's "Pit Reporters" radio talk show. Jim has years of experience at the race track and knows job openings before they go public. He worked his way up in auto racing and will share his secrets to getting into the motor sports business from the bottom up.
Colin Neill is the current Team Principle of British Touring Car Race Team, Carbon Zero Racing. The team is unique within the sport as the entire team is ‘Carbon Zero’. Their race
cars and transporter running on 2nd generation bio-fuels. Highly competitive appearances in the BTCC have provided the perfect platform to both increase public awareness in alternative fuels and technologies and to show that environmentally friendly fuelled racing is still as exciting and spectacular as ever. The championship also allows our commercial partners to target an audience that already has their attention; however, with the teams approach to carbon reduction it continues to constantly generate Media and PR interest from around the world.
Between 1984 and 1998, Colin had great success in Moto-Cross winning a number of titles. In 2003 he switched to four wheels competing in various saloon car championships but also building on his race team experience. He has since concentrated on developing Team CVR with the vision of creating the most environmentally friendly race team that competes in the British Touring Car Championships.
In 2008 Colin secured title sponsorship to enter the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship with Carbon Zero Racing and will take up the position of Team Principal and test driver within the team.
During the 2009 season Team CVR entered into British Touring Car Championship as an Independent team, taking two 2nd places along the way and finishing 7th overall from 17 listed teams.

This might be for an entry level job in the motorsports industry or it might be to enhance your current career in motorsports. Team owners, professional drivers and driver agents will often join the chats to offer their input and expertise.
